Dussehra is a festival which is symbolic of the victory of good over evil. It is celebrated when Lord Rama killed Ravana, who had in vain had done the abduction of Sita.
It is celebrated on the 10th day of the Navratras to put an end to evil and to have the victory of good. It is also said that Lord Rama, prayed to Goddess and gained strength to fight evil. Like the goddess Durga killed the demon, Mahishasur, in a similar fashion, Lord Rama also killed Ravana, who was a proud king filled with vanity and pride.
The Vijayadashami or Dussehra festival is of a tremendous cultural significance for all who live in this land – irrespective of their caste, creed or religion – and is being celebrated with gaiety and love. It is my wish and my blessings that all of you celebrate Dussehra with total involvement, joy, and love.
This is another festival which brings along a lot of happiness and gaiety. Already people are indulged into the festive spirit with the navratras being celebrated and immediately after on the 10th day, people celebrate dusssehra. They wish each other and also send dussehra wishes to their friends and loved ones who are far from them.
Children often indulge in making effigies of Ravana, only to be burnt on the 10th day to mark the importance of good over evil.

*Anyaaya* (Injustice)
*Kama vasana* (Lust)

*Mada* (Over Pride)
*Matsara* (Jealousy)
*Moha* (Attachment)
*Swartha* (Selfishness)
Hence, also known as *’Vijaydashami’* signifying *”Vijaya”* over these ten bad qualities.
